Muller Martini Changed Digital Book Production
July 24th, 2008 by RyanWhile overall sales figures in the book market remain almost constant, the growing diversity of titles is inevitably leading to smaller print runs. The big challenge facing book publishers lies in producing smaller runs profitably. With the SigmaLine, Muller Martini is demonstrating a total system with which short runs of books can be produced cost-effectively in high quality and with short delivery times.
The SigmaLine has a concave shape in the lower section and convex in the working section which allows the operator to maintain an ergonomic posture. The doors now have a continuous rod which allows them to be opened more easily, giving better access to the machine. It is also considerably easier to operate. The SigmaLine makes use of the advantages offered by the new Connex workflow system in order to improve the efficiency of small runs.
With Connex, the JDF for each job can be generated in a few mouse clicks. It can be used as a fully functional, stand-alone solution. The sub-processes have to be integrated with one another for the benefits of digital book production to be fully utilized.
