Saving Files For Print
March 25th, 2008 by Jenny WilliamsPrint ready artwork can be saved from the following software programs: Adobe Photoshop® CS,
Adobe Illustrator® CS, Adobe InDesign® CS, Macromedia Freehand®, QuarkXpress®.
All images must be saved as High resolution DPI (dots per inch) this describes the number of dots that fit horizontally and vertically into a one-inch space. Generally, the more dots per inch, the more detail captured and the sharper the resulting image.
Vector based artwork can be opened in Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign, or Macromedia Freehand, select “Create Outlines” and re-save as an illustrator EPS file. Not all fonts transfer from platform to platform so outlining your fonts will ensure there are no font substitutions or reflow.
Rasterized files can be opened in Photoshop, just select “Flatten the Layers” and re-save your artwork.
Remember, RGB colour combinations can not be reproduced exactly if your file is converted to CMYK.
If your artwork is created in RGB, it is strongly recommend that you convert your file to CMYK.
After you convert your files to CMYK you may need to do slight colour corrections to the file to match your colours as closely to the original colours you desired.
