Bank Note Business Cards
December 19th, 2007 by Rob GaskellA Zimbabwean tourism promoter is facing up to a year in jail for using a Zimbabwe bank note as a business card. The 10-cent bank note isn’t enough to buy a matchstick in Zimbabwe and has become obsolete as it costs more than it is worth to print since the country is struggling with inflation of over 8,000%.
The promoter stamped his telephone number and business details on the note to create business cards which he handed out at a tourism fair in London. He now faces up to a year in jail after it was alleged that he “discouraged foreign tour operators from coming to Zimbabwe while claiming the country’s currency was so useless it was only fit to be used as business cards.”
Defacing bank notes is illegal in many countries including the UK, so I wouldn’t be tempted to use a five pound note for your next business card!
